New Covid variant spreading rapidly! UK public warned about isolation

The UK Health Security Agency has issued a warning reporting that XEC, a new variant of Covid-19, has begun to spread across the country and that cases are rising at a high rate. XEC, a mutated version of Covid-19 that has recently begun to spread, particularly across Europe, is projected to be more contagious than other variants.

It was announced that the positive case rate rose to 4.5 cases per 100,000 people in the period from June, when the variant emerged, to October 6. It was stated that this rate was around 3.7 last week.

Following the many mutations the Covid-19 virus has undergone, it has been reported that the XEC variant, in addition to being more contagious than others, presents symptoms such as fatigue, headache, and sore throat.

Although self-isolation is no longer a legal requirement in the UK, the NHS (National Health Service) warns patients who test positive for the XEC variant to avoid contact with others for at least five days.

It was reported that the Covid-19 variant, which is also active in Turkey, does not cause severe illness, but that individuals with weakened immune systems are advised to be extra cautious.
