New information has been shared regarding the armed attack on two National Guard soldiers at a location near the White House in Washington D.C., the capital of the US. West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey, who initially stated in his first announcement that the two soldiers from the West Virginia National Guard who were attacked had lost their lives, later said in a new update, "We are currently receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two National Guard personnel, and we will share them with the public when we have clearer information." FBI Director Kash Patel announced that the two guards were "seriously injured" in the incident and that their condition remains critical. Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser also stated that the attack is being evaluated as a "targeted attack."

THE ATTACKER'S APPROACH AND INTERVENTION

Washington D.C. Assistant Police Chief Jeffery Carroll stated that the attacker approached the soldiers on patrol, saying, "It was determined that the suspect began firing at the two National Guard members immediately after turning the corner." Explaining that other National Guard personnel in the area responded to the gunfire, Carroll said, "They intervened, and after the suspect was shot, they were able to hold him on the ground until law enforcement arrived on the scene within minutes."
