New immigration law creates chaos in the UK

In the UK, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's proposed immigration law, which he promised to deliver to satisfy conservative voters and his own cabinet, has failed to gain traction. While the newly proposed law has primarily unsettled immigrants living in the UK, Sunak has also failed to please his own MPs and ministers. Due to the Rwanda plan, the Immigration Minister resigned in the evening hours.

The Prime Minister was shaken by the resignation of Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick after failing to appease far-right factions with the emergency Rwanda legislation.

The new draft law contained provisions that would put immigrants living in the United Kingdom in financial difficulty and make it harder for them to even bring their families to the island. However, this development, which would make family reunification almost impossible, could also pose legal problems as it would amount to a violation of human rights.

Home Secretary James Cleverly announced a bill in the House of Commons aimed at "disapplying" the UK Human Rights Act to prevent British judges from blocking the deportation of asylum seekers.

However, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's refusal to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights has also caused turmoil within the party.

In his scathing resignation letter, Immigration Minister Jenrick stated that he had clearly expressed to Sunak his desire to bypass the European Convention on Human Rights, demanding the strongest possible bill that would place national interests above highly controversial interpretations of international law, but that his request was not accepted, leading to his resignation.
