New statement from Hamas's military wing: Israeli army tank destroyed

The Qassam Brigades stated in a written announcement that Israeli forces were targeted in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood in western Rafah, where a ground invasion has been ongoing since May 7.

It was noted that after several days of surveillance, an ambush was prepared for Israeli armored forces on Al-Bahr Street, and a landmine was detonated as an Israeli army Merkava tank passed by in the morning hours.

While it was reported that the tank was destroyed and the soldiers inside lost their lives as a result of the attack, it was stated that "it took hours to remove the soldiers' bodies and the wreckage of the tank."

The Israeli army announced on May 6 that it had requested the evacuation of certain neighborhoods in eastern Rafah, where forcibly displaced Palestinians had taken shelter, and on the morning of May 7, it launched a ground attack on the Rafah region of Gaza, announcing that it had seized the Gaza side of the border crossing with Egypt.

The Israeli army had previously announced that 662 of its soldiers had been killed since the start of its attacks on the Gaza Strip on October 7, with 311 of those deaths occurring during the ground invasion process.
