New York Stock Exchange closes the day with gains
The New York Stock Exchange finished the first trading day of the week, in which the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will announce its interest rate decision, with gains. At the close, the Dow Jones index gained nearly 150 points, rising 0.38 percent to 38,386.09 points.
The S&P 500 index rose 0.32 percent to 5,116.17 points, and the Nasdaq index gained 0.35 percent to reach 15,983.08 points.
Investors followed a positive trend in equity markets on the first trading day of the week as they awaited the Fed's monetary policy decision and key macroeconomic data to be released this week.
Analysts recalled that the probability of the Fed starting interest rate cuts has been pushed toward the final quarter following data signaling that the fight against inflation may take longer than expected.
Stating that it is considered certain that the Fed will keep interest rates unchanged this week, analysts noted that clues regarding the bank's future steps will be sought in the statements to be made by Fed Chair Jerome Powell after the decision.
Analysts noted that employment data to be released this week and the earnings reports of companies such as Apple, Amazon, Coca Cola, McDonald's, and Qualcomm are also being awaited.
On the corporate side, shares of Domino's Pizza, which reported earnings above expectations in its financial results released today, recorded an increase of nearly 6 percent.
Tesla reported that Chinese officials have lifted restrictions on its cars after passing the country's data security requirements. Consequently, Tesla shares gained over 15 percent following increased expectations that the company will soon launch its autonomous driving technology in China, its second-largest market.
Shares of the Netherlands-based electronics company Philips also rose by approximately 27 percent after the company reached a 1.1 billion dollar settlement for injury claims linked to the recall of some of its sleep apnea devices.
On the other hand, it was noted that shares of former US President Donald Trump's media company, Trump Media & Technology Group, gained more than 12 percent.
