Pakistan-India war begins: '9 regions targeted'

According to Reuters, numerous explosion sounds were heard near the Pakistani city of Muzaffarabad.

A statement from Pakistan said, "India's attacks will be answered."

A spokesperson for Pakistan International Airlines reported that aircraft in the air were being diverted to Karachi. It was announced that Pakistani airspace has been closed for 48 hours following the attack.

STATEMENT FROM INDIA

The following statements were made regarding the attack from the Indian side:

9 regions were targeted; our actions were focused, measured, and designed not to lead to conflict... We have launched 'Operation Sındoor' in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

We targeted terrorist infrastructure. No military facilities belonging to Pakistan were targeted.

STATEMENT FROM PAKISTAN ARMY SPOKESPERSON

Following India's statement, the Pakistan army spokesperson also announced, "No Indian aircraft entered Pakistani airspace."

In retaliation to India's attack, the Pakistan army spokesperson stated, "All our jets are in the air. This is a shameful and cowardly attack carried out from within Indian airspace. Let me be clear, Pakistan will respond to this attack at a time and place of its own choosing. This provocation will not go unanswered."

Pakistan security sources announced that 2 Indian fighter jets were shot down.

According to the statement made by the Pakistan army, 8 people lost their lives, 35 people were injured, and two are missing in the attacks. 24 points in 6 regions were affected by India's attacks.

STATEMENT FROM PAKISTANI PRIME MINISTER SHARIF

Regarding the Indian attack, Prime Minister Sharif said, "Pakistan has the right to give a befitting response to this act of war imposed by India, and a befitting response is being given."

TRUMP'S FIRST COMMENT ON THE CONFLICT

US President Donald Trump made a statement following the attack by India. Regarding the events, Trump said, "India and Pakistan have been fighting for hundreds of years, I hope it ends quickly."

INDIA-PAKISTAN TENSION

In a terrorist attack carried out on April 22 at a tourist spot in Pahalgam, in the Jammu and Kashmir region of India, 26 civilians had lost their lives. While India claims that Pakistan had a role in the attack, the Islamabad administration denies the allegation. The Pakistani government had recently announced that it had received "credible intelligence" that India was planning to initiate military action.
