Azerbaijan and Armenia have announced that they agree there is an opportunity to achieve peace, confirming their intention to sign a peace agreement.

In a joint statement from the Azerbaijani Presidency and the Armenian Prime Minister's Office, it was stated that as a result of talks between Baku and Yerevan, an agreement was reached to take significant steps toward strengthening trust between the two states.

The statement said, "Azerbaijan and Armenia agree that there is a historic opportunity to achieve the long-awaited peace in the region. Both states confirm their intention to normalize relations and sign a peace agreement based on respect for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity."

34 SOLDIERS TO BE RELEASED

The statement reported that Azerbaijan has decided to release 32 Armenian soldiers and Armenia has decided to release 2 Azerbaijani soldiers as a gesture of goodwill. It was also noted that, as a gesture of goodwill, Armenia supports Azerbaijan's bid to host the 29th session of the United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP29) and has withdrawn its own candidacy. The statement emphasized the hope of Baku and Yerevan that other countries in the Eastern European Group will also support Azerbaijan's bid to host the conference.

The statement further noted that, as a gesture of goodwill, Azerbaijan supports Armenia's candidacy for membership in the COP Bureau of the Eastern European Group, adding, "Azerbaijan and Armenia will continue discussions regarding the implementation of further confidence-building measures to be carried out in the near future and call on the international community to support these efforts. This will help strengthen mutual trust between the two states and will have a positive impact on the entire South Caucasus region."
