A person sets themselves on fire while former US President Donald Trump is on trial

The trial of former US President Donald Trump regarding the "hush money" payment made to an adult film actress he had an affair with during the 2016 presidential election is continuing in New York.

It has been reported that a person set themselves on fire in front of the Manhattan Criminal Court, where high security measures have been taken due to the trial.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the man first threw pamphlets into the air, then doused himself with a flammable liquid from a canister and set himself on fire.

Witnesses stated that the individual burned for several minutes.

Police officers in the vicinity intervened with fire extinguishers on the person lying on the ground in flames.

No statement has yet been made regarding the identity or health status of the person, who was taken to the hospital.

Former President Trump was indicted by a grand jury on March 18, 2023, as part of an investigation conducted by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office into the illegal "hush money" payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election.

Trump appeared before a judge in New York on April 4, 2023, on charges of falsifying business records related to the "hush money" payment.

Denying the 34 separate charges against him, Trump described the allegations as a "political witch hunt" and stated that he viewed the charges as "election interference."

Trump went down in history as the "first former president to appear before a judge due to charges brought against him in American history."

Experts estimate that the trial, including presentations by the parties and the hearing of witnesses, could last 6 to 8 weeks. It is noted that during this process, Trump is required to be present in the courtroom 4 days a week.
