Phone call from Joe Biden to Trump: 'I am grateful that you are well'
Following the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, statements continue to arrive one after another. US President Joe Biden stated in his remarks at the White House today that he spoke with Trump on the phone. Noting that it was a brief conversation, Biden said, "I am sincerely grateful that he is doing well and recovering."
Stating that he and First Lady Jill Biden are praying for Trump and his family, Biden also conveyed his "deepest condolences" to the family of 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, who was killed at the rally. Biden said of Comperatore, "He was a father. He was protecting his family from the bullets."

'THIS IS NOT WHO WE ARE AS A NATION'

Noting that there is no place for any violence in the US, Biden said, "An assassination attempt is contrary to everything we stand for as a nation. This is not who we are as a nation. This is not America, and we cannot allow this to happen."
Calling for unity, Biden said, "Unity is the most elusive goal of all, but nothing is more important than that right now. We will debate and we will disagree. That will not change, but we will not lose sight of who we are as Americans."
