Planned to be held in Istanbul: Venue for US-Iran talks changed
A new phase has begun in the negotiations between the US and Iran, which have been deadlocked for a long time over the nuclear program. It has been decided to move the meeting between the parties from Istanbul to Oman.
Nuclear talks suspended between the Washington and Tehran administrations have signaled a restart. A notable change has occurred regarding the venue for the critical meeting where the US and Iran will sit at the table again. The negotiations, which were previously expected to be held in Istanbul, have been moved to Oman at Iran's request.
The American press brought to the agenda developments regarding the meeting planned to take place between the White House special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. According to reports, the Iranian side requested that the meeting take place in Oman, not Istanbul. It was stated that the US administration responded positively to this request.
Making statements regarding the negotiation process, US President Donald Trump answered questions from journalists after signing a 2-week temporary budget package in the Oval Office. Speaking about the nuclear talks, Trump said, "They want to do something, let's see if a concrete result will emerge."
Furthermore, referring to the "Midnight Hammer" operation carried out in the past against Iran's nuclear program, Trump said, "They had an opportunity before, but it didn't work out and we carried out Operation 'Midnight Hammer'. I don't think they want that to happen again. They want to negotiate. We are currently in active discussions with them."
No information has been provided yet regarding exactly where and when the meeting will be held. Trump refrained from making a statement regarding the details of the planned meeting.
