Politico reports: Mohammed bin Salman fears assassination like Anwar Sadat

It has emerged that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, seen as the de facto leader of Saudi Arabia, told US officials he met with that he fears falling victim to an assassination.

According to a report by the US website Politico, the Prince told members of the US Congress that he believes he could be killed due to negotiations regarding his country's normalization of relations with Israel. The report included the interpretation that Prince Salman is trying to persuade the US, which is pressuring Saudi Arabia to improve relations with Israel, to agree to a more favorable deal for his country by using this argument.

Before October 7, when the attacks on Gaza began, normalization talks were ongoing between Saudi Arabia and Israel. Prior to that, Israel had normalized relations with some Arab countries through US mediation.

THE ANWAR SADAT EXAMPLE

According to Politico, Prince Salman expressed that he is concerned for his life and that any deal with Israel must include a Palestinian state. It was stated that the Saudi prince also cited the example of former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, who was assassinated in 1981 after reaching an agreement with Israel.

Politico reported that the normalization deal discussed in secret negotiations between Saudi Arabia and Israel also includes Riyadh limiting its agreements with China in exchange for investments in its nuclear program and technology.
