Pope Francis: 'Gossip is women's work'

It has been alleged that Pope Francis told priests at a meeting in the Vatican, "Gossip is women's work."

According to Vatican sources, the Pope said at a meeting he attended on Wednesday, "We wear trousers," advising priests to "leave the gossiping to women" and to speak openly to people's faces.

The 87-year-old Pope, known for his modern and moderate stance, was previously the target of criticism and issued an apology for using profanity when speaking about men some time ago.

HE HAD CALLED IT 'THE DEVIL'S WORK'

In many of his speeches in past years, Pope Francis had described gossip as "the devil's work."

Pope Francis, who has appointed women to important positions in the Vatican, also granted women the right to vote for the first time last year.

On the other hand, he had rejected the proposal for women to become deacons.
