PPI rates in the US have been announced!
The Producer Price Index (PPI) rates have been released ahead of the US inflation data that global markets have been closely watching. Accordingly, while the annual PPI data met expectations, the monthly figures exceeded them.
In the US, the Producer Price Index (PPI) rose by 0.5 percent on a monthly basis in April, exceeding expectations, while it increased by 2.2 percent on an annual basis.
The US Department of Labor announced the PPI data for April.
Accordingly, the PPI increased by 0.5 percent in April compared to the previous month. Market expectations were for producer prices to rise by 0.3 percent on a monthly basis. The PPI had decreased by 0.1 percent in March.
RECORDED HIGHEST LEVEL ON A MONTHLY BASIS
The annual increase in producer prices reached 2.2 percent in April, the highest level since April 2023.
Producer inflation, which was in line with market expectations on an annual basis in April, was calculated at 1.8 percent in March.
Core PPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, increased by 0.5 percent on a monthly basis and 2.4 percent on an annual basis in April. Core producer inflation, which was in line with expectations on an annual basis, was estimated to be 0.2 percent on a monthly basis.
Core producer prices had decreased by 0.1 percent on a monthly basis in March, while they had shown an increase of 2.1 percent on an annual basis.
The PPI measures the prices of inputs used in production and provides clues regarding final product prices and headline inflation. The US Federal Reserve monitors all inflation indicators, including the PPI.
