Presidential candidate in Iran criticizes 'headscarf' policy

Presidential candidates in Iran have accelerated their election campaigns. 

Presidential candidate Masoud Pezeshkian criticized the mandatory headscarf policy.

Speaking at the "Conference of Women Supporting Masoud Pezeshkian" held at one of his campaign centers in the capital, Tehran, the candidate said, "I have never lied to get votes in my life, and I have never used false slogans."

"I BELIEVE IN RIGHTS AND JUSTICE"

Pezeshkian stated, "I believe in rights and justice. The rights of women, sects, and ethnic groups are important to me. It makes no difference to me whether one is a woman, a man, a Turk, a Kurd, or a Baluch."

"TURKS HAVE A SAYING...'

Criticizing the current government's program regarding the mandatory headscarf policy, known in the country as the "Noor Plan," Pezeshkian said:

"Regarding the Noor Plan, we Turks have a saying. It translates to 'they call darkness light.' We have been trying to fix the headscarf issue through interventions for 40 years, but haven't we made it worse? This plan drags us toward darkness."

INTENSE INTEREST IN THE CONFERENCE

The conference was attended by former female Vice Presidents Masoumeh Ebtekar and Shahindokht Molaverdi, as well as Fatemeh Hashemi, daughter of former President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, and numerous other women.
