Prosecutor investigating live broadcast raid in Ecuador killed

Prosecutor Cesar Suarez was subjected to an armed attack while driving his vehicle on Bombero Boulevard in the north of Ecuador's Guayaquil city, as he came to a stop.

Prosecutor Suarez, who was shot in the head, lost his life at the scene.

It was reported that numerous police teams were dispatched and an investigation into the incident has been launched.

President Daniel Noboa condemned the attack on his social media account X and gave instructions for the perpetrators to be caught "immediately."

In addition to investigating the live broadcast raid, Suarez was also investigating cases of drug trafficking, terrorism, and organized crime.

LIVE BROADCAST RAID

The studio of the television channel named "TC Television" in the city of Guayaquil was raided by armed individuals during a live broadcast.

In the footage shared on social media, it was seen that individuals with their faces covered by masks took those in the studio hostage and placed explosives in the presenter's pocket.

STATE OF EMERGENCY HAD BEEN DECLARED

The Ecuadorian government, which has been struggling with a security crisis for some time across the country, declared a 60-day state of emergency (OHAL) on January 9 following the escape of gang leader Adolfo Macias Salazar, nicknamed "Fito," and several other inmates from a prison in the city of Guayas, and subsequent bomb attacks on police vehicles.

It was announced that a curfew would be implemented between 23:00 and 05:00 within the scope of the state of emergency.

Following the state of emergency decision, criminal organizations kidnapped numerous police officers and set vehicles on fire.

On the other hand, in videos shared on social media, police officers who were kidnapped by gang members were seen with guns held to their heads while asking for help from President Noboa.
