Prospect of a new summit between Putin and Trump remains slim

Responding to questions from journalists in Moscow, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov made statements regarding relations between Russia and the US. Emphasizing that both countries continue to maintain contact on specific issues, Ryabkov stated that security matters remain at the center of the discussions.

Stating that they are in favor of resuming direct flights with the US, Ryabkov noted that no steps have been taken on this matter so far.

On the other hand, Ryabkov was also asked whether a new summit would take place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. Ryabkov expressed the following on the matter:

"Any meeting at the highest level requires deep preparation and work on all aspects. To date, neither the first nor the second condition required for such a meeting has been met. At this stage, it is important for us to fill the framework formulated by the two leaders in Anchorage in August with concrete details."

In his remarks, Ryabkov underscored that a direct summit between the leaders does not appear possible in the near future, pointing to the importance of advancing current efforts with specific details.
