Rafah Border Crossing opened: Coffins sent inside aid trucks

While only 20 of the aid trucks waiting at the Rafah Border Crossing in Egypt were allowed to pass, the UN stated that 'at least 100 trucks per day must pass' into Gaza, where more than 2 million Palestinians live.

According to the report in Hürriyet, a statement from Hamas's media office said, “The aid convoy includes 20 trucks carrying medicine, medical supplies, and a limited amount of food supplies (canned goods),” and noted that a safe corridor for humanitarian aid must be established in the region. Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari said, “The humanitarian situation in Gaza is under control, and aid will only be delivered by the army to southern Gaza.” Among the aid supplies in the convoy, in addition to food, there are also a large number of coffins to be delivered to hospitals.

“REGULAR HUMANITARIAN AID FLOW” IS NEEDED

Noting that 400 trucks passed through Rafah daily before the war, UN World Food Programme Executive Director Cindy McCain said, “The situation in Gaza is catastrophic. We need many, many, many more trucks and a continuous flow of aid.” 

Juliette Touma from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stated, “The trucks currently crossing will be a drop in the ocean. What civilians in Gaza need is the provision of a regular flow of humanitarian aid.” According to UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths, at least 100 trucks of aid need to pass into the region daily. Currently, 175 trucks carrying approximately 3 thousand tons of aid are waiting at the Egyptian border.
