Reaction to Trump... Zelenskyy calls on Europe to form an army: 'Putin looks like NATO's most effective member'
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated at the Munich Security Conference that a joint army should be established for Europe's security. Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine would not abandon its NATO membership and responded to US President Donald Trump's announcement that he would begin peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking at the Security Conference held in Munich, Germany, Zelenskyy made statements regarding European security. Zelenskyy expressed that European countries should establish a joint army to ensure their own security.
Stating that Ukraine's NATO membership will remain on the agenda, Zelenskyy said, ''Right now, Putin looks like the most effective member of NATO.'' The Ukrainian leader stated that they would not accept a ceasefire without real security guarantees being provided for Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz gave a message of support to Ukraine in his opening speech at the conference. Scholz stated that Ukraine would continue to be supported and that they would not approve of an imposed peace agreement. Scholz said, ''A strong Ukraine with Western support is a strong message to Putin.''

The Ukrainian leader stated that they have information that Russia is preparing to send troops to Belarus. Addressing European leaders, Zelenskyy asked, 'If Russia launches an attack, are your armies ready for it?'
Zelenskyy claimed that North Korean troops fighting in Ukraine are learning modern warfare techniques. Emphasizing that arms production must be done entirely within the continent for Europe to ensure its own security, Zelenskyy called on Europe to form an army.
Underlining that they have not abandoned their claim to NATO membership, Zelenskyy added the following:
''I call on you to take action for yourselves. Europe must decide its own future. We will never accept agreements made behind our backs without our involvement. Some may be disappointed with Brussels, but if there is no Brussels, there is Moscow. “The end of the war must be our first joint success... If there is no NATO membership, then the conditions to build another NATO in Ukraine. We cannot accept a ceasefire without real security guarantees.''
