Remarkable statement from Iran on the Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a statement to the Japan-based Kyodo News agency, made assessments regarding the war launched against Iran and developments in the region. Describing the ongoing conflict as a "war imposed on Iran," Araghchi stated that the Tehran administration was in the process of negotiations with Washington when the attacks began.

Araghchi stated that the military process against Iran was an "illegal and unprovoked act of aggression," adding that the steps taken by his country were within the scope of self-defense and would continue "as long as necessary."

STRAIT OF HORMUZ IS OPEN BUT THERE ARE RESTRICTIONS

Addressing the current situation of the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi emphasized that the strait has not been completely closed, using the words, "We have not closed the strait. It is open."

However, Araghchi noted that certain restrictions have been applied to the passage of ships belonging to countries that support the attacks against Iran. He said that safe passage could be provided for countries that establish contact with the Tehran administration.

MESSAGE OF "BALANCED STANCE" TO JAPAN

Araghchi called on the international community, especially Japan, to take a stance against the attacks on Iran. Stating that they are pleased with the "balanced and fair" approach of the Tokyo administration, Araghchi drew attention to the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries.

Stating that various countries are making mediation attempts to end the conflict, Araghchi expressed that Iran is "open to all kinds of initiatives."

Expressing the view that the US is not ready for a permanent solution, Araghchi emphasized that Iran wants "not a ceasefire, but a complete, comprehensive, and permanent end to the war."
