Retired Israeli general: What is happening in Gaza is a major disgrace

In a statement to a local radio station, Brik evaluated Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip and the current situation.

"We are losing a lot in Gaza; what is happening is a major disgrace. (Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu is throwing dust in people's eyes," Brik said, referring to the insistence on continuing the attacks, adding, "The army knows it is impossible to defeat Hamas, and soldiers are being killed."

'THE CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF IS LYING'

Brik further stated that Israeli Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi wants to remain in his post until his term expires and that he is lying.

The US-based newspaper The New York Times (NYT) reported that six high-ranking retired and active-duty Israeli generals, who requested anonymity, wanted to end the war in Gaza, even if it did not ensure that "Hamas is militarily finished at this stage."

While it was claimed that Israeli generals wanted to end the war in the Gaza Strip and fully supported a ceasefire and mutual hostage exchange agreement with Hamas, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the military announced that they would continue the attacks "until the goals of militarily finishing Hamas and bringing back all Israeli hostages in Gaza are achieved."

In an interview with a television channel on June 19, Israeli Army Spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated that "it is not possible to destroy Hamas militarily, as Hamas is an idea," and added that "setting such a goal is meant to deceive the public."

Following reactions to Hagari's words from the ruling far-right leaders, primarily Prime Minister Netanyahu, the Israeli army was forced to issue a statement saying they remained "committed to the goals of the war."
