Russia issues 'dating app' warning: Do not turn on your location

Russia has warned its citizens living in border regions not to use dating apps to prevent their sensitive information from being stolen. The Russian Interior Ministry advised residents living in the Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod regions to avoid using unsecured cameras and dating apps.

According to Interfax, it was also emphasized that caution should be exercised regarding links received in chat groups, stating that this is intended to "prevent enemies from gathering intelligence." It was further stressed that military and police personnel living in these regions should not use online dating services or watch videos from sensitive locations.

'DO NOT USE LOCATION'

As reported by BBC Turkish, a warning was issued that Ukraine is able to "see everywhere by seizing unprotected CCTV cameras," and security forces were instructed not to use location services on social media under any circumstances.

An article by Olga Fyodorova in the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper also warned that Ukrainian forces could gather intelligence by hacking cameras in Russia. For this reason, it was stated that surveillance tools and dating apps should not be used to avoid creating security vulnerabilities.
