Russian Foreign Ministry: Israel's attacks are dragging the world toward a nuclear catastrophe

The ministry issued a written statement regarding the conflict that began with Israel's intense attacks on Iran.

Pointing out that "the escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel poses risks primarily for Israel, Iran, neighboring countries, and the entire region," the statement noted that Western countries support Israel's destructive actions and are imposing their own views on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The statement included the following: "The West's attempts to manipulate the global nuclear non-proliferation regime and use it for political score-settling with undesirable countries are costing the international community dearly. This is unacceptable."

In the statement, which criticized Israel's actions against Iran, the following was conveyed:

"Israel's ongoing intense attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities in Iran are illegal under international law. These pose unacceptable threats to international security and are dragging the world toward a nuclear catastrophe, the consequences of which would be felt everywhere, including in Israel. Russia calls on the Israeli leadership to come to its senses and immediately cease attacks on nuclear facilities that are subject to IAEA oversight."

The statement emphasized that the IAEA must provide an impartial assessment of the damage caused to nuclear energy facilities in Iran as soon as possible.

Noting that Iran remains committed to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and is prepared to resume contacts with the U.S. regarding its nuclear program on the condition that Israel stops its attacks, the statement added that Moscow supports this approach and favors resolving the issue only through diplomacy and negotiation.
