Russian President Putin casts his vote in presidential election

According to a statement from the Kremlin, Putin cast his vote for the Russian presidential election remotely via an electronic system from his residence in the Moscow region.

HELD OVER 3 DAYS FOR THE FIRST TIME

The presidential election in Russia will continue until March 17. For the first time in the country, the presidential election is being held over 3 days and is also being conducted via a remote electronic voting system in nearly one-third of the federal regions.

In the election, where 4 candidates are competing for the presidential seat, the incumbent President Vladimir Putin is running as an independent candidate with the support of the United Russia Party.

NEW PRESIDENT WILL SERVE A 6-YEAR TERM

Liberal Democratic Party leader Leonid Slutsky is on the ballot representing his own party, Nikolai Kharitonov for the Communist Party, and Vladislav Davankov for the New People Party.

The newly elected president will serve a 6-year term.

Putin, who is seen as having a very high chance of being elected, will serve as President of Russia for the 5th time if he emerges victorious from the polls again.
