Russian President Putin: Iran can have peaceful nuclear energy

Russian President Vladimir Putin answered questions from the heads of the world's leading news agencies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

Pointing out that the public in Iran is consolidated despite political difficulties, Putin stated, 'This is a situation that generally happens everywhere, and the situation in Iran is no exception.'

Stating that Iran's 'underground facilities' are also still in place, Putin said, 'In this context, we all need to look for ways to stop the conflicts and reach an agreement. The right thing to do is to look for ways to end hostilities and find ways to secure the interests of both Iran and Israel.'

Emphasizing that Russia has a high level of mutual trust with Iran, Putin said, 'Iran's interests in the field of peaceful nuclear energy can be ensured. Israel's security concerns can be eliminated. There are options.' he said.

Stating that they have discussed these details with Israel and the US, Putin said, 'We have given certain signals to our Iranian friends. In general, it is possible to both ensure Iran's interests in peaceful nuclear energy and address Israel's concerns regarding security issues.'

Emphasizing that they have conveyed the framework of these proposals to the parties, Putin said, 'We are not imposing anything on anyone, we are just talking about how we see a possible way out of the situation.'

Putin underlined that the final decision belongs to the political leadership in Israel and Iran.
