Scorching heat claims lives: 33 election workers die

Voting, which began on April 19 with approximately 969 million registered voters participating in India, concluded as of yesterday evening.

While election results are expected to be announced on June 4 following the 7-phase voting process held across 21 states and union territories, extreme heat has marked the election period.

33 ELECTION WORKERS LOST THEIR LIVES

In the country hit by scorching heat, it was announced that 33 election workers died due to heatstroke in a single state on the final day of the election process.

Navdeep Rinwa, an official in the state of Uttar Pradesh, reported that 33 election workers, including security and cleaning staff, lost their lives due to extreme heat, stating, "Compensation of 1.5 million rupees (18 thousand dollars) will be paid to the families of those who lost their lives." Describing another incident in the city of Ballia where a person waiting in line to vote lost consciousness in the extreme heat, Rinwa said, "The voter was taken to a health center and was later declared dead."
