She killed her children and lived with their decomposing bodies for two weeks

In an incident that took place in the Brazilian state of Parana, a woman named Eliara Paz Nardes killed her 3-year-old son, Joaquim, and her 10-year-old daughter, Alice.

Not knowing what to do after the murders, the woman hid in her home with the bodies, which began to decompose over the course of two weeks.

The situation was reported to the police after neighbors noticed odors coming from the house and realized the family had not been seen outside for a long time.

Police found the mother hiding next to the decomposing bodies.

During the trial, it was stated in court that the 33-year-old woman smothered her son with a pillow and then hanged her daughter after giving her a sedative.

The mother was sentenced to 64 years in prison.

Prosecutors stated that police found the children's decomposing bodies laid out on a bed.

Police officers stated that at the time of her arrest, the defendant said she felt she could no longer emotionally or financially care for her children, who had different fathers, and that she had planned to commit suicide afterward but did not go through with it.

The judges rejected the defense's claim that Nardes had suffered a nervous breakdown.

Nardes, who has been in prison since her arrest in August 2022, has lawyers who say they plan to appeal the decision.
