Ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz suspended until further notice
Iran has announced that it has halted all ship passages through the Strait of Hormuz, citing the US's failure to fulfill the terms of the agreement and Israel's ongoing attacks on Lebanon. The parties are set to meet in Switzerland for technical discussions regarding the resolution of the issue.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime passage in southern Iran, has been closed to ship traffic. A military official who spoke to the Fars News Agency but requested anonymity stated that the strait remains closed to passage and that this situation will continue until further notice from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.
In a statement made yesterday by the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces, it was reported that the Strait of Hormuz was closed, citing the US's failure to fulfill the terms of the agreement and Israel's continued attacks in Lebanon as the reasons.
In this tense atmosphere, eyes have turned to the diplomatic traffic in Switzerland. Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Negotiation Delegation, stated that technical discussions would first be held with Pakistani and Qatari mediators, followed by a four-party meeting with the participation of the US, Pakistan, and Qatar.
The main agenda for the contacts planned to be held in the town of Bürgenstock will be the end of the war and the implementation of the signed memorandum of understanding. Baghaei stated, "Israel is violating the ceasefire in Lebanon, and this issue will be one of the most important topics of the discussions."
It was also stated that the release of Iran's frozen assets abroad and the issue of oil sales permits for the country would be brought to the agenda during the negotiations. Diplomatic sources underscore that the meetings being held are of critical importance for the resumption of activity in the Strait of Hormuz.
