SHIP'S SEIZURE CONFIRMED

The official stated that the hijacked ship, "Central Park," belongs to the Israeli company Zodiac Maritime and is believed to be carrying approximately 20 thousand tons of oil.

TWO TURKS AMONG THE CREW

In a statement from the company, it was noted that the tanker was loaded with phosphoric acid. The statement described the incident as an act of piracy. It was stated that there were 22 multinational personnel on the ship, whose captain and 4th captain are Turkish, and that their safety is the priority. A statement from the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs indicated that it is assessed that the ship, on which Turkish mariners Captain Aydın Hasırcı and 4th Captain Okan Yüksel were serving, has been hijacked, and that constant communication is being maintained with all units, especially the relevant company.

"THE MATTER IS BEING FOLLOWED BY THE MINISTRY"

The following was noted in the statement:

"Communication with the chemical tanker named Central Park, belonging to the Zodiac Maritime firm, has been lost since this morning while it was sailing off the coast of Yemen in the Gulf of Aden, and no contact has been established in the time that has passed. It is assessed that the ship has been hijacked. Our Turkish mariners, Captain Aydın Hasırcı and 4th Captain Okan Yüksel, are serving on the ship, and constant communication is being maintained with all units, especially the relevant company. The matter is being followed by our Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

Last week, a cargo ship was also hijacked by the Houthis in the Red Sea.
