South Korea holds first live-fire drill in 6 years
For the first time in 6 years, South Korea has conducted a live-fire exercise at a firing range near the North Korean border.
The South Korean military announced that it conducted drills along the front lines in the Gyeonggi and Gangwon regions, near the demilitarized zone that connects the two Koreas.
The statement noted that 140 rounds were fired during the live-fire exercise, which was the first of its kind in 6 years.
"FIRST LAND-BASED DRILL"
The statement, which noted that this was the first land-based exercise since the government suspended the Inter-Korean Agreement signed in 2018 aimed at reducing military tensions, added that the military will now conduct regular drills in the border region.
Marines from the South Korean Navy also conducted a live-fire exercise on islands near the North Korean border on June 26, for the first time in 7 years.
