British actor Patrick Stewart, who took on impressive roles throughout his stage and film career and will be remembered especially for his roles as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" series and Professor Charles Xavier in the "X-Men" films, has passed away at his home in Los Angeles. He was 86.
Stewart and his co-stars from "Star Trek: TNG" brought their characters to the big screen in several films before the "Star Trek" film series was rebooted by JJ Abrams with characters from the original series.
In the highly acclaimed "X-Men" film series, Stewart played Professor Xavier opposite the villain Magneto, portrayed by his close friend Ian McKellen. He is also reprising the same role alongside McKellen in the film "Avengers: Doomsday," which is set to be released in December.
