Statement from Iran regarding negotiations with the US

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei made statements to the Iranian public broadcaster IRIB regarding the negotiations held with the US in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.

Stating that "an agreement was reached on a number of issues" with the US but that "there were disagreements on two or three important issues," Baghaei reminded that "these negotiations were held in an atmosphere of distrust and suspicion, 40 days after the war imposed on us."

Pointing to the difficulty of achieving results from a single meeting, Baghaei said, "It is natural that we did not expect to reach an agreement in a single meeting from the beginning. No one expected that anyway." Baghaei emphasized that they believe Iran's contacts with Pakistan and other friendly countries in the region will continue.
