Statement from the White House: 21-day emergency ceasefire call from 10 countries

In a written statement from the White House, it was reported that the US and France have agreed on a call for a ceasefire on the Israel-Lebanon border, and that the EU, Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have also joined this joint statement.

The joint statement included the following: "The situation between Lebanon and Israel since October 8, 2023, is intolerable and presents an unacceptable risk of a broader regional escalation. This is in neither the interest of the people of Israel nor the people of Lebanon."

Noting that it is time for a diplomatic settlement that will enable civilians on both sides of the border to return to their homes, the statement said: "Diplomacy cannot succeed amid this ongoing conflict. Therefore, we are calling for an immediate 21-day ceasefire across the Israel-Lebanon border to provide space for diplomacy."

The statement, which called on the Israeli and Lebanese governments to support this temporary ceasefire proposal in accordance with United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 1701, emphasized that there is a need for diplomacy in the region at this time.
