In Iran, the gas supply to 12 petrochemical companies has been cut off due to increased residential natural gas consumption during cold weather.

According to Iran's official news agency IRNA, Ahmad Mahdavi Abhari, Secretary-General of the Association of Petrochemical Industry Employers, made a statement regarding the matter.

Speaking at a program in Tehran, Abhari shared the information that, "The increase in residential gas consumption has caused problems in delivering gas to petrochemical firms, and the gas supply to 12 petrochemical companies has been cut off."

Stating that they are ready to invest in the country's oil fields, Abhari "10 contracts have been prepared for this issue and are awaiting the signature of the Ministry of Petroleum" he said. ENERGY SUPPLY CRISIS IN IRAN

In Iran, which is suffering from electricity and gas supply shortages, government officials, led by President Masoud Pezeshkian, have called on citizens to set their boilers to a temperature 2 degrees lower.

Due to the energy supply shortage and cold weather in the country, schools in many provinces have been closed over the past month, and government offices in some provinces have been operating via remote work.

Iranian Vice President Mohammad Jafar Qaempanah also announced that operations at factories and workshops in some industrial zones had been halted due to natural gas shortages in the country.

Last week, the natural gas supply to 272 government offices in the capital, Tehran, was cut off on the grounds that energy-saving directives were not being followed.

In Iran, in addition to the inability to make sufficient investments in energy infrastructure due to economic sanctions, negligence in natural gas and electricity consumption is causing problems in energy supply. Especially during the winter months, gas and electricity cuts in industrial areas, agricultural zones, and residential areas lead to economic and social problems.

According to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), while Russia holds the world's largest proven natural gas reserves with 47 trillion cubic meters, Iran ranks as the country with the second-largest gas reserves, holding 34 trillion cubic meters.
