Sweden becomes NATO's 32nd member
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, "Sweden has become the 32nd member of NATO and has taken its rightful place at our table."
Following the approval of Turkey and Hungary, Sweden has become the 32nd member of the alliance by submitting its accession documents to the US. In a statement, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, "It is now official. Sweden has become the 32nd member of NATO and has taken its rightful place at our table.
Sweden's accession makes NATO stronger, Sweden safer, and the entire alliance more secure. I look forward to raising their flag at NATO headquarters on Monday."
"SWEDEN IS NOW A NATO MEMBER"
In a statement, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said, "Sweden is now a NATO member. I thank all the allies for welcoming us as the 32nd member.
We will strive for unity, solidarity, and burden-sharing, and we will remain fully committed to the values of the Washington Treaty: freedom, democracy, individual liberty, and the rule of law. Together, we are stronger."
Meanwhile, Sweden and its neighbor Finland applied for NATO membership in May 2022 following the war in Ukraine. Finland became the 31st member of the alliance last April.
