Taxi drivers on strike in the Greek capital
The Athens Taxi Union (SATA), which criticizes the government's new tax law, has gone on a one-day strike.
Taxi drivers in Athens, the capital of Greece, have launched a one-day strike against the new tax law planned by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' government.
UNION DECIDES TO HALT SERVICES
According to reports from the Athens-based Ekathimerini, taxi drivers in the Attica region have decided not to provide services today as part of the strike initiated by the call of the Athens Taxi Union (SATA).
NOT THE FIRST STRIKE BY TAXI DRIVERS
Criticizing the new law that the government plans to implement to prevent tax evasion by self-employed workers, SATA stated in its announcement that this law would lead to the strengthening of large multinational companies and cause harm to small businesses.
Taxi unions in some other cities, including Thessaloniki, also supported the strike. Athenian taxi drivers had previously gone on strike for the same reason on November 16, between 09:00 and 16:00 local time.
