Temporary suspension order for construction sites due to extreme heat

France has begun taking significant measures due to record-breaking temperatures sweeping across the country. With the heatwave reaching a red alert level, a state of emergency has been declared in 49 departments. Labor Minister Jean-Pierre Farandou emphasized worker health in a statement addressed to employers. To avoid risking the lives of those working outdoors, Farandou called for "the complete suspension of construction and outdoor activities when necessary," stating: "You are responsible for the safety of your employees. Close the construction sites entirely if needed." He also pointed out that personnel should not be exposed to direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day.

A clear message has come from the government regarding rule violations. It was stated that there will be no tolerance for workplaces that do not comply with the regulations. The government also announced that, under new legal arrangements, heavy administrative and financial penalties have been introduced for companies that fail to prepare preventive plans assessing heat-related risks.
