Tensions rise in Syria: Anti-regime groups seize large parts of Aleppo

Armed groups opposed to the Assad regime, which entered the city center of Aleppo yesterday (November 29), have taken control of many neighborhoods in the center.

The groups, which reached the central Saadallah al-Jabiri Square, advanced and seized a large portion of the city.

In a short time, the anti-regime groups also took the governorate and police headquarters buildings, as well as the Aleppo Citadel, a symbol of the city.

The armed groups, which captured the Abu al-Duhur Military Airport, seized ammunition and military vehicles left behind by regime soldiers.

The armed groups, which imposed a nighttime curfew in the city, are conducting inspections and taking security measures in the neighborhoods they have brought under their control.

In the evening hours, the groups also entered buildings used by the regime as detention centers and released dozens of people, including political prisoners.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SYRIA?

Clashes between Assad regime forces and anti-regime armed groups began on November 27 in the western countryside of Aleppo province in northern Syria.

Advancing rapidly from the western countryside of Aleppo toward the center on November 27-28, the anti-regime armed groups had also captured numerous regions in the Idlib countryside starting from the second day of the clashes.

The armed groups, which entered the Aleppo city center as of noon yesterday, had reached the central parts of Aleppo city center by the evening hours.
