That executive order had sparked controversy: US appeals court rejects Trump!

A US appeals court has rejected an application to reinstate President Donald Trump's executive order that would have blocked birthright citizenship for children born in the country.

According to a report by NBC News, the US Department of Justice had filed an appeal to the court to put the regulation Trump sought to implement back into effect.

Three judges serving on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals turned down the department's request and halted the implementation of the order in question.

BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP IN THE US

On January 20, when he took office, Trump had signed an executive order preventing children born in the country from being granted automatic citizenship.

Following this move, 18 Democratic state attorneys general filed a lawsuit to have the order overturned.

On January 23, a district judge in Seattle had temporarily blocked Trump's executive order on the grounds that it was "unconstitutional."

In addition to this, another judge in the state of Maryland issued a preliminary injunction on February 6, preventing the order from being implemented nationwide.

Each year, approximately 150,000 children gain the right to American citizenship because they are born within US borders.
