The coffee detail in Trump's Saudi Arabia visit

U.S. President Donald Trump began the first foreign trip of his second presidential term in the Middle East. Welcomed with a purple carpet in Saudi Arabia, the first stop of his visit, Trump held a brief meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at King Khalid International Airport.

During the meeting, Trump was accompanied by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Deputy Governor of Riyadh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz. Before the meeting began, coffee, offered as a traditional gesture, was served to the guests. While Prince Mohammed, Rubio, and the Deputy Governor drank the coffee offered to them, Trump's approach to the coffee did not go unnoticed.

Trump, who held the coffee offered to him for a long time, did not drink it despite examining the cup. Although this situation was initially interpreted as a diplomatic distance or a cultural difference, it actually had a much more personal preference behind it.

WHY DID HE NOT DRINK COFFEE?

The reason Trump declined the coffee is a strict lifestyle rule he has followed for years. This stance of the U.S. leader was shaped after his older brother, Fred Trump Jr., lost his life at a young age due to alcohol addiction. According to a report published by Newsweek in 2017, Trump completely removed alcohol, cigarettes, and caffeine from his life after losing his brother in 1981.

Trump clearly expressed this decision in his book "The America We Deserve," which he wrote in 2000. Stating in the book that he has never drunk coffee in his life, Trump reiterated this stance in interviews he gave years later. Speaking to Esquire magazine in 2015, Trump said, "My brother was 10 years older than me and he always advised me to stay away from cigarettes and alcohol. And I listened to him. I haven't drunk a single cup of coffee to this day."
