The Gabriel Attal era begins in France

Speaking at the handover ceremony held at the Prime Ministry, Gabriel Attalindicated that the issue of education would be one of his primary priorities in his new role.

Attal stated that by "taking strong decisions regarding the abaya (long dress) and secularism, and by banning the abaya in schools, he acted in the name of freedom." Expressing that the principles of "Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity" found in the French motto would guide him, Attal noted that many French people have doubts about their own country.

SECURITY AND MIGRATION ARE PRIMARY PROBLEMS

Attal said, "Together with the President, our sole goal will be to control our destiny and unleash French potential." The new Prime Minister conveyed that the issue of security and the fight against migration are primary issues for his country. It was noted that Attal's hands were shaking while he was giving his speech.

Borne also welcomed Attal and thanked President Emmanuel Macron, cabinet members, and ruling party deputies.

Reminding that she had served France for nearly 7 years as a minister and then as prime minister, Borne stated that she would continue her duty as a member of parliament from now on.

Borne stated that she pursued the policies she believed were right for the country, highlighting that more than 50 laws were passed in parliament during her tenure as prime minister.

A MESSAGE OF SUCCESS FROM THE FORMER PRIME MINISTER

Attal, 34, who has taken office as the country's youngest prime minister, was born in 1989 in the city of Clamart, in northern France.

A graduate of Sciences Po Paris, one of France's most prestigious schools, Attal took his first steps into political life in 2006 as a member of the Socialist Party (PS).

Attal was among the first figures to support Macron before he assumed the presidency. During Macron's presidency, Prime Minister Attal held several positions, including member of parliament, government spokesperson, and minister of education.

Attal, who is among the politicians close to the president, sparked controversy while serving as education minister by banning the wearing of abayas in public schools on the grounds that it violated secularism.

The "abaya ban" decision taken in the country on August 27, 2023, was brought to the Council of State on the grounds that it violated rights and freedoms, and the Council of State ruled that the ban "did not violate the rights to respect for private life, worship, and education."
