The inside story of Kyiv’s “Spider Web” operation! 'The damage is massive'
Tensions have escalated on the front lines ahead of peace talks in Istanbul. Ukraine destroyed more than 40 bomber aircraft in a kamikaze drone attack on strategic air bases located deep within Russian territory. According to Kyiv, the operation caused 7 billion dollars in damage.
War on the front lines has intensified between Russia and Ukraine, who are set to meet for peace talks in Istanbul today. In the attacks that took place yesterday, a source speaking to Ukrainian media stated that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) struck "more than 40" Russian bomber aircraft at air bases in the interior regions of Russia.
It was noted that the attack targeted Russian Air Force A-50, Tu-95, and Tu-22 strategic bombers. These aircraft are reportedly used in long-range missile strikes against Ukraine.
THEY HID THE DRONES IN TRUCKS
According to Ukrainian intelligence, preparations for the operation took about a year and a half. The operation was also overseen by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The attack was carried out without prior notification to the US. FPV-type drones were first placed on the roofs of cargo trucks using special wooden compartments. These trucks were then secretly smuggled into Russia and deployed near Russian air bases. The attack drones, which took off after the truck roofs were opened remotely, targeted the Russian aircraft. The air bases targeted by Ukraine are located approximately 4,500 kilometers from the front line.

FOOTAGE CIRCULATED ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Numerous images were shared on social media, allegedly showing Ukraine's drone attacks. The footage also shows the moments the drones struck and exploded against aircraft parked on the runway. It is stated that the base where the aircraft were hit is in Russia's Irkutsk region.
EMERGENCY HEADQUARTERS ESTABLISHED
Irkutsk Regional Governor Igor Kobzev confirmed an attack on a military unit in the region by sharing a video on his social media account showing kamikaze drones flying and thick smoke rising. Stating that the number of drones has not yet been counted, Kobzev said that security forces were dispatched to the scene and an emergency headquarters was established regarding the incident.
Reports suggest that other aircraft were also attacked at the Olenya Air Base near Murmansk. Russian media is reporting on the attack in Murmansk but claims that their air defenses were operational.

RUSSIA CONFIRMED THE ATTACKS
The Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement regarding the attack in which Ukraine struck air bases in Russia's interior regions, hitting more than 40 Russian bomber aircraft. In the statement made by the Ministry, it said, "The Kyiv regime carried out a terrorist attack using UAVs on airfields in the Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions."
Stating that the attacks on military airfields in the Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions were repelled, the statement said, "In the Murmansk and Irkutsk regions, several aircraft caught fire as a result of UAVs launched from an area near the airfields. The fire was brought under control. There were no casualties among military and civilian personnel."
The statement added that individuals connected to the attacks have been detained.

7 BILLION DOLLARS IN DAMAGE TO RUSSIA
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) made a statement on its Telegram account regarding the attacks carried out with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on Russia's military airfields. In the statement, which noted that a "special operation" named "Pavutini" (Spider Web) was carried out by the SBU, it was stated that it is estimated that 7 billion dollars in damage was inflicted on Russia's strategic aviation.
The statement, which noted that detailed information about the operation in question would be announced later, used the phrase, "34 percent of the strategic cruise missile carriers at the main airfields of the Russian Federation were hit." The statement indicated that they would do "everything in their power" to push back Russian troops on Ukrainian soil.

ZELENSKYY: IT WILL UNDOUBTEDLY BE IN THE HISTORY BOOKS
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Vasyl Maliuk, following the drone attacks on air bases in 5 regions of Russia. Describing the result of the drone attacks on the air bases as "excellent," Zelenskyy said, "The Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Maliuk, presented a report on today's operation. An absolutely excellent result. A result achieved solely by Ukraine. One year, six months, and nine days from the start of planning to effective implementation. Our longest-range operation."
Stating that the personnel involved in the operation left Russian territory in time, Zelenskyy said, "I thanked General Maliuk for this success of Ukraine. I instructed the Security Service of Ukraine to inform the public about the non-classified details and results of the operation. Of course, not everything can be disclosed right now, but these are actions of Ukraine that will undoubtedly be in the history books."
Emphasizing that Ukraine is defending itself, Zelenskyy said, "We are rightfully doing everything so that Russia feels the need to end this war. Russia started this war, Russia must end it."

Ukraine had hidden the UAVs it secretly smuggled into Russian territory in trucks and carried out attacks on air bases in the Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions. A large number of Russian bomber aircraft were hit in the attack.
