The toll in Tehran is getting heavier: Death toll after protests in Iran at a frightening level

The US-based non-governmental organization Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) has announced the current toll of the mass demonstrations in Iran, which began on December 28 in response to the cost of living and turned into anti-government protests.

According to HRA data, the number of people who lost their lives in the protests has risen to at least 3,308. It was stated that 3,097 of the deceased were protesters, 22 were children, and 23 were neutral civilians, while it was also reported that a total of 166 security personnel and government-supporting civilians lost their lives.

It was reported that investigations into 4,382 death reports are ongoing. Stating that 2,107 people were seriously injured, the HRA shared the information that the number of people arrested during the demonstrations has reached 24,266.

The demonstrations that began in Iran on December 28 in response to the cost of living had turned into anti-government protests and violent incidents.

Addressing the public in Tehran, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei admitted for the first time that thousands of people died during the protests, stating, "Those linked to Israel and the US caused great damage and killed thousands of people during the protests that lasted more than two weeks and shook Iran."
