The truth about Syria's interim President Al-Shara has emerged

A recent report published by the United Nations has revealed that five separate assassination plots against Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Shara and several government members were thwarted throughout 2025. Al-Shara was the target of direct attacks twice, in the northern Aleppo and southern Daraa regions. It was determined that the Saraya Ansar al-Sunnah organization, affiliated with ISIS, was behind these attempts.

Intelligence sources in the region reported that the attacks were prevented thanks to intelligence sharing provided by neighboring countries. It was noted that ISIS has accelerated its recruitment of new militants in Syria, particularly following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024.

Photographs of al-Shara taken with US President Donald Trump were circulated as a sign of his pro-Western stance. United Nations assessments also pointed out that ISIS is attempting to destabilize the current government in Damascus. The report emphasized that the organization is particularly "effectively exploiting security gaps and the uncertainty in the country."

ISIS positions al-Shara as its highest-priority target in the country. It was also reported that the organization continues its activities in various parts of the country under different names.

ISIS ACTIVITIES CONTINUE IN THE REGION

According to experts, ISIS, which continues to pose a security threat in Syria and Iraq, is taking advantage of weapons stockpiles left over from the Assad administration and existing security vulnerabilities. Recent estimates suggest there are approximately 3,000 ISIS members in the region, primarily based in Syria.

The interim government in Damascus officially joined the international coalition against ISIS last November. It also took over the management of prisons in northeastern Syria and the Al-Hol camp, where approximately 25,000 people are held. Experts describe the Al-Hol camp as a high-risk "ticking time bomb" in terms of radical movements, pointing out that the region could become a new source of recruits for the organization.

Following the fall of the regime, ISIS has continued to carry out acts of violence across the country. In an attack carried out in mid-December, three US soldiers lost their lives, and three Syrian soldiers were wounded in the incident.

The interim administration is working to tighten its operations and controls to stop the organization. Military measures are being carried out incessantly to reduce the influence of ISIS, which operates through various cell structures.
