Thermometers hit minus 56 degrees
As temperatures in Yakutia, located in Russia's Siberia region, hit minus 56 degrees, the capital Moscow has been blanketed in white.
With the arrival of winter in Russia, temperatures have dropped. In Yakutia, located in Russia's Siberia region, temperatures have fallen below minus 50.
In Yakutsk, located in Yakutia, the air temperature was measured between minus 44 and minus 47, while in Oymyakon, the air temperature was recorded at minus 56 degrees in the evening hours.
Experts stated that considering wind and humidity, the air temperature in Oymyakon would feel like more than minus 60 degrees and that temperatures would drop even further throughout the night.
FLIGHTS POSTPONED
In a statement made by the Russian National Meteorological Service, it was said, "Frost is expected to increase in the European part of Russia, the Urals, and Siberia regions during the first week of December."
The capital Moscow was blanketed in white as a result of heavy snowfall, with snow depth reaching 35 centimeters in some places.
Flights were postponed at some of Moscow's airports.
Temperatures in Moscow and the surrounding region are estimated to drop to approximately minus 20 degrees within this week.
