Greece has begun incorporating the long-range missile systems known as Spike NLOS, which it procured from Israel, into its military inventory. It has been reported that the administration in the capital, Athens, plans to gradually deploy these systems to the Aegean islands and the Meriç line, which is the border region with Turkey. This strategic move also brings about a significant transformation in the Greek army's long-range offensive capabilities.

The first group of personnel who will operate the Spike NLOS missile systems is undergoing an intensive training process in the Avlonas region. While the goal is to transport the first batteries to the islands by the end of the summer, it is anticipated that all ordered deliveries will be integrated into the Greek Land Forces by the end of the year.

Military officials point out that, unlike classic anti-tank missiles, the Spike NLOS offers an integrated combat capability through real-time data sharing. The system provides an effective solution not only against armored vehicles but also against high-priority targets such as landing craft, command centers, and radar facilities.

The Hellenic National Defence General Staff does not view these purchased missile systems as a traditional arms procurement, but rather as one of the key elements of establishing a comprehensive "Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD)" network across the geographical structure of the islands in the Aegean. The ability of the Spike NLOS to strike targets with precision beyond the operator's line of sight (NLOS) allows for the use of missile launchers without being at risk on the front line.

On the other hand, the core operator cadre training in Avlonas is expected to play a pioneering role in the formation of new tactical structures in border regions. It is stated that the missile systems will have a significant impact on the military architecture in the region.

While the Turkish-Greek border line has recently been the scene of security-focused developments between the two countries, Greece's steps to increase its defense capacity with these new systems are being closely monitored.
