This news concerns dual citizens closely: Deadline is February 25!
Starting February 25, the United Kingdom is implementing a new regulation requiring dual citizens to carry a British passport when entering the country.
Under the new regulation to be applied at UK borders, significant changes will occur regarding the return of British citizens who hold dual citizenship to the country. After February 25, dual citizens wishing to travel to the United Kingdom will be required to carry a valid British passport.
With this new regulation, an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) requirement is being introduced for all passengers who cannot prove British or Irish citizenship and do not hold the necessary exceptional permission. The fee for the ETA has been set at 16 pounds. However, for dual citizens, the process also brings a significant additional cost and documentation requirement.
While it becomes mandatory for dual citizens to present a British passport for the first time upon entry, those who do not hold a passport will have to go through a different procedure. At this point, those who wish to come to the United Kingdom with a passport from another country are required to have a "Certificate of Entitlement" added to their passports.
The cost of this document, which has caused debate among citizens, has been announced as 589 pounds. This fee, which corresponds to approximately 35 thousand TL at the current exchange rate, is described by many as "punitive."
Experts warn that after February 25, when the new practice begins, dual citizens who do not have the necessary documents may experience problems during their travels by plane, train, or ferry. It is recommended that British dual citizens complete the necessary passport procedures as soon as possible to avoid any grievances.
