Thousands of Israelis receive the same message simultaneously: Panic across the country
A fake emergency message warning thousands of Israelis to "enter shelters immediately" was sent to their mobile phones.
According to reports from Israel's state broadcaster KAN, thousands of Israelis received an emergency message on their mobile phones overnight stating, "you must enter shelters immediately." The message included a warning for recipients not to open the link and contained spelling errors in the Hebrew text.
Approximately one hour after the fake alert was sent, the Israeli military announced that it had not issued any notifications and that there were no changes to the Home Front Command's security instructions. Authorities have launched an investigation into the fake alert, evaluating the possibility that it may have been sent as a result of a cyberattack originating from Iran.
While clashes between the two sides have continued with varying intensity along the Israel-Lebanon border since October 8, 2023, Israel being held responsible for the recent explosions in Lebanon has led the country to raise its security level.
