Christodoulides delivered a speech at a memorial ceremony held at the Agios Kassianos Church in Nicosia. At the ceremony, he argued that December 21, 1963, was a "turning point in the modern history of Cyprus." Defining the armed activities carried out by EOKA militants and the Greek police at that time as "struggle," "sacrifice," and "heroism," Christodoulides commemorated the Greeks who lost their lives and paid his respects to them.
BLOODY CHRISTMAS: A TURNING POINT IN CYPRUS HISTORY
The "Bloody Christmas" massacre, initiated by militants of the terrorist organization EOKA on December 21, 1963, became a symbol of the acts of violence committed against Turkish Cypriots. In 1963, EOKA had put into effect the Akritas Plan, which aimed to purge Turks from the Republic of Cyprus. That night, dozens of Turkish Cypriots were massacred in Nicosia.

Describing the current situation in Cyprus as "unacceptable and unsustainable," Christodoulides stated that they are making efforts to restart negotiations within the framework of European Union principles.
