Three more countries recognize Palestine
Canada, Australia, and the UK have taken a significant step in the international arena by recognizing the State of Palestine. With this development, the number of countries recognizing Palestine has reached 150.
Canada, Australia, and the UK have announced that they officially recognize the State of Palestine. First, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that they recognize the State of Palestine and offered cooperation for a peaceful future.
Carney stated that this step would contribute to building a peaceful future for both Palestine and Israel.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, in a statement following Canada's, drew attention to the Israeli government's efforts to block a Palestinian state. Stating that "Hamas should have no role in Palestine," Albanese emphasized that they are part of international efforts for a two-state solution.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that Hamas should not be involved in government or security. Declaring that "the hope for a two-state solution is fading, but you cannot allow that hope to be extinguished," Starmer announced that sanctions would be imposed on Hamas members.
Since declaring its independence in 1988, the State of Palestine had been recognized by 147 of the 193 UN members. With the recognition by Canada, Australia, and the UK, this number has risen to 150. Turkey is among the first countries to recognize Palestine. Within the last year, Norway, Spain, Slovenia, and Ireland have also joined the countries that recognize Palestine.
