A controversial decision has been taken in Canada. A shutdown order has been issued for TikTok, which has been criticized and faced lawsuits multiple times due to security leaks.

TIKTOK IS BEING SHUT DOWN

Minister Champagne announced that along with the ban on TikTok's commercial activities due to "security risks," its offices in Toronto and Vancouver will be closed.

Stating that Canadian citizens can continue to use the app and create content, Champagne said, "It is important for citizens to pay attention to their cybersecurity and to assess the potential risks of using social media applications."

ALLEGED TO COLLECT INFORMATION

In May, David Vigneault, Director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), had called for the social media platform TikTok not to be used on the grounds that the Chinese government was collecting information.

Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne spoke about the China-based social media platform TikTok.
